To connect or reduce the distance between, a structure that spans and provides passage, pillar of strength, piles of support, pier under pressure, persistent pylon, bridge, arch, overpass, span, band, bond, connection, link, tie, bind, extend, across, traverse, unite. The process is an integral part of the product. If past cultures are judged by the structures they leave behind, how will contemporary structures reflect on us? A linear technique used to depict mass, monumentality, bridging structures tend towards fascism in their functional minimalism. My work has rarely drawn a line between form, material or process. Each impacts on the other and are equally valid.
The nature and qualities of a material and its method are part of each work. Analogy - Relationships - Laurie Smith June 05
